We welcomed US interest in Bangladesh wishing our people to show commitment to democracy. We also reminded that there is shortage of commitment to democracy among our people. They have been struggling for democracy since 1948 i.e from the days of Pakistan. Our failure lies in the fact of conspiracy of Pakistan army and our simple minded leadership. Pakistan was broken up by Bhutto in conspiracy with a section of the army.
Bangabandhu’s stay in West Pakistan as a prisoner is the key to the understanding of the betrayal with our goal of democracy. After the arrest of Bangabandhu both sides hushed up the fact there was a settlement on the six-point demand. Let the mystery of Bangabandhu’s arrest be unearthed and we will know the vicious game played on us and the lies being promoted in Bangladesh. Our commitment to democracy was denied. Democracy has become a nightmare.
Instead of democracy, politics of gun power began in Bangladesh. Leftist politics of authoritarianism gained prominence for incompetent political leadership backed by sections in India. India never believed in Pakistan.
Bangabandhu was made a revolutionary leader. He established BAKSAL absolute dictatorship with no room for human rights.
After the end of BAKSAL a new way has been found to remain in power without election through rampant corruption. Now it is no secret in the outside world what Bangladesh has become. The thieves and thugs are in control with a few backers from outside.
Huge looted money have been kept abroad under various guises. But the big plunderers are being identified by the US. An international awareness has been created to catch hold of the big thieves from Bangladesh and follow their money. The people’s money should be returned to the people. They are in the grip of corruption and gun power.
The democratic world must control gun power, fight corruption to help democracy. Because of the move the corrupt ones are already in search safe hiding places. Some foreign countries are refusing their entry.
Democracy has friends because dictatorship has become gun power politics. Democracy is under stress also in some Western democracies.
