US Embassy Dhaka’s Facebook page gained its three-millionth fan on May 13, making it the first US Embassy Facebook page worldwide to reach this milestone, according to a statement issued by the embassy yesterday.
“Every day, we engage with thousands of Bangladeshis on our Facebook page and talk with them about women’s empowerment, labour and trade, human rights, and so many other issues that matter deeply to both our countries,” said Ambassador Marcia Bernicat. “Bangladeshis love to debate and exchange ideas and I’m delighted that our Facebook page has become a space for lively discussions and is most popular U.S. Embassy page internationally -we’re the unbeaten champions!” In honor of the embassy’s Facebook friends, Ambassador Bernicat recited Rabindranath Tagore’s poem Old and New in a video.
