The United States has strongly condemned ‘cowardly acts’ that target members of a community with historicroots in Bangladesh and that strike at Bangladesh’s traditions of diversity and harmony.”We condemn in the strongest possible terms these cowardly acts,” US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat said in a statement on Tuesday without mentioning any name or specifying any incident. She said, the United States supports the government of Bangladesh’s efforts to identify the perpetrators of this and all extremist attacks. “The government of Bangladesh’s commitment to rooting out militancy is demonstrated by the recent arrest of suspects involved in these incidents and by the counter-terrorism raid in Dhaka, which led to the seizure of bombs and bomb-making materials,” Bernicat said.Earlier on Monday, the European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Pierre Mayaudon urged all relevant official authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into Hindu priest killing and bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice. He strongly condemned the murder of Joggeshwar Roy, a Hindu priest from Panchagarh and the attack on Gopal Chandra Roy, who received injuries while trying to save the priest. Ambassador Mayaudon observed that an attack on any religion is an attack against all religions.British High Commissioner in Dhaka Alison Blake also tweeted on Monday saying she is horrified at the savage attack on Joggeshwar Roy and Gopal Chandra Roy. “Nothing can justify attacks on people because of their faith or beliefs.”
