The US-Bangla Airline, one of the country’s private airlines on Sunday spread its wings to foreign sky for the first time as it commenced its international flight to Kathmandu.
The inaugural flight of the airline to Nepal took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 3 pm with 76 passengers on board including Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon.
Before the flight, at an inaugural ceremony inside a hanger beside the runway of the airport, Menon said the government will facilitate hangers for the aircrafts of country’s private airlines.
“I have already given directives to the Civil Aviation Authority to provide space to the private airlines for hangers during construction of the third terminal of the HSAISIA,” he said.
He said the government is willing to provide space for hangers as these are essential for the airlines to maintain highest level of compliance regarding flight safety.
Menon said his ministry is also considering reducing landing fees and surcharges for the private airlines so that they can strengthen their position in the aviation business.
The minister said the government would like to see the private airlines expanding their international routes. “We have a captive market here. The foreign airlines are taking the fruits of this market,” he added.
Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAA,B) Air Vice-Marshal Ehsanul Ghani Chowdhury, High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh Benoit-Pierre Laramee and US-Bangla Managing Director Mohammed Abdullah Al Mamun were present on the occasion.
Initially, US – Bangla Airlines is planning to operate its flight to Kathmandu for three days a week which are: Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday respectively. Taking off from Dhaka at 3:00pm (Local Time) the plane will land at Kathmandu, Nepal at 4:30pm (Local Time) and very day the flight will again airborne from Kathmandu, TIA at 5:10pm (Local Time) for the return flight and will land Dhaka at 7:10pm (Local Time).
The flight is being operated by Bombardier, Canadian manufactured, 76 seated Dash 8 Q-400 with a least fare of Taka 13,999 for round trip and Taka 9,999 for one-way including all taxes.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh government has already granted US-Bangla with the permission to operate in Kathmandu, Paro, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Bangkok, Singapore, Dammam and Kolkata.
