Uranium worth Tk 55cr seized in city, 3 held

Three businessmen were detained on Tuesday along with uranium worth Tk 55 crore from the city’s Rampura area by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
RAB-10 deputy commander Major Shahriar Ziaur Rahman confirmed it.
The arrested were ABM Siddiqui Bappi, 59, Md Akhtaruzzaman, 33, and Md Mizanur Rahman, 50.
Major Shahriar Ziaur Rahman said acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-10 conducted a raid at Zakr Golli at East Rampur under the city’s Rampura Police Station on Monday. During the raid, the RAB-10 team members arrested theree persons along with uranium worth Tk 55 crore. The RAB-10 team also found a leather-made box, a small hide and steel box, a remote controller, a gas mask, an electric meter, a black compass, a rubber-made dropper, a glass-made pot, five glass-made thin pipes, a scissors, a meter, a black compass, two pipes, a metallic distiller, a catalogue, a pair of handgloves, a leather made handgloves, a skin-made jacket.
Quoting the arrested persons, RAB said the arrested persons procured the uranium illegally from various sources. They also have been selling the uranium for a long time. The seized goods and the accused were handed over to Rampura Police Station.
Major Shahriar said legal measures were being taken against the arrested persons.
