President M Abdul Hamid on Tuesday asked the members of Armed Forces to uphold their image at national and international levels by ensuing utmost professionalism.
“Uphold the image of the armed forces . . . Help continue the country’s ongoing development trend in the days to come,” President’s Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin quoted him as telling the chiefs of the three services who called on him at Bangabhaban on Tuesday afternoon.
On the occasion of the Armed Forces Day, Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, and Chief of Air Staff Marshal Abu Esrar paid a courtesy call on the President.
Abdul Hamid said the armed forces are playing an important role in the international arena beyond the boundary of the country which has brightened the image of the country in the world.
The President, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed forces, greeted all the members of armed forces and their families on the occasion.
He recalled the sacrifices of the members of the armed forces in the Liberation War and said their activities accelerated the ultimate victory in 1971.
President Hamid was apprised by the three chiefs of the activities of their respective forces.
Secretaries concerned of the President were present.
On this day during the War of Liberation in 1971, the Bangladesh Armed Forces comprising army, navy and air force, came into being and launched an all-out attack on the Pakistani occupation forces.
After independence of the country, this historic day is being observed as the Armed Forces Day every year.
