The issue of upgrading Mymensingh and Dinajpur municipalities to city corporations is under consideration of the government, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam told Parliament on Monday.
The two municipalities will be upgraded to city corporations following the fulfillment of certain criteria, he said, replying to a tabled starred question from Begum Pinu Khan (Women Seat-23).
There are now 11 city corporations in the country. The Awami League government during its previous tenure upgraded Narayanganj, Comilla, Rangpur and Gazipur to city corporations, while split Dhaka City Corporation into two bodies – Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation.
