A leader of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) was shot to death by some unidentified miscreants in Axay para under Panchhari Upazila of Khagrachhari district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Binashon Chakma, 40, Organising Secretary of UPDF District Unit and a resident of Naniya Chhor in Panchchari Sadar.
Quoting locals, UPDF district organiser Michel Chakma said that a group of miscreants opened fire on Binashon Chakma when he came out of his home around 11:30 am, leaving him dead on the spot. He also blamed goons of the Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS-MN Larma) for the attack.
However, Proshanto Tripura, Information and Publicity Affairs Assistant Secretary of JSS-MN Larma, denied their involvement in the incident. Nure Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchhari Police Station confirmed the news to media.
