An activist of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), a Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political group, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Langadu Upazila’s Bhuiyachara on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Pabitra Chakma, 38, a collector of UPDF and son of Shanti Priyo Chakma.
Ranjan Kumar Shamanto, officer-in-charge of Longdu Police Station, said miscreants swooped on Pabitra and
opened fire around 2:30pm while he was taking rest at a friend’s house. He died on the spot. A team of police and army was going to Langadu to retrieve the body, the OC said. The motive for the killing could not be known immediately.
