Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and its intelligence units will prepare a updated list of the drug suppliers in the city for starting a anti-drug drive soon.
DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed hinted it at a program organized by anti-smoking organization Coalition Against Tobacco (CAT) in the city.
DMP Joint Commissioner (Crime) Shahabuddin Khan said, Police are preparing to hunt new and old drugs peddlers.
When asked,several police officers said, An update list is under preparation in this regard and police would soon begin anti-drug operation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DMP media) Masudr Rahman said, “We are working for controlling drug abuse. In the last three months, the DMP arrested over 400 drug traders and they were given punishment by mobile court. Further action will follow.”
Abdul Qaiyum, Officer-in-charge of Kafrul police station said, names, addresses and areas of the drugs traders have been made updated for drive against them as per instruction of the higher authorities.
Hosne Ara Begum, Bhashantek Police Station Officer-in-Charge, said, “We are collecting information from the field level and the regular drives against narcotics are going on.”
However, no list of drug traders was prepared during last 2/3 years. Police and members of the intelligence agencies are jointly working to prepare the list.
