UNB, Dhaka :
Archaeologists and green activists at a discussion in the city on Friday stressed enacting a time-befitting law to protect the country’s archeological heritages and resources.
They said, this land is historically resourceful with plenty of valuable archeological sites and structures, but these antique resources have been destroyed or smuggled out since the colonel regime due to ignorance and negligence.
Poribesh Bachao Andolon (Poba) organised the discussion, titled ‘Archeological Culture of Bangladesh and its Traditional Importance
and Management’ at Poba’s Kalabagan office in the capital.
Institute of Architects Bangladesh president Abu Sayeed M Ahmed; Dr AKM Shahnewaz and Dr Muzammel Haque, professors, Archeology Department, Jahangirnagar University; Dr Atiar Rahman, professor, Islamic History and Culture, Jagannath University; Poba chairman Abu Naser Khan; and architect Prof Shamsul Wares, among others, spoke at the discussion.
The speakers said the nation’s glory is involved with its archeological heritages and resources, and if a nation falls in crisis, their bright traditions and culture give them inspiration to restore their lost glory.
They said many archeological heritages and structures in the country have become vulnerable for lack of maintenance and repair.
The speakers said that the developed nations strictly enforce their laws to preserve archeological heritages and structures aiming to present their historical glory to the next generation and international arena.
Unfortunately, antique heritages and structures of Bangladesh are being destroyed for lack of responsibility by the authorities concerned to protect these valuable resources, they added.
