Upcoming budget to ensure employment, social development: NBR chairman

Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Mohammad Nojibur Rahman on Wednesday said the basic objectives of the upcoming budget are social development and security, poverty reduction, enhanced GDP and generation of more employment in the country.
The upcoming budget will benefit honest businessmen and also consider economic ability and welfare of the mass people in the country.
‘NBR will take all kinds of steps to promote honest businessmen and against dishonest ones to materialise the vision 2021,’ he reiterated.
The NBR chairman revealed this while addressing a pre-budget view-sharing meeting with government officials, chamber leaders and others concerned at conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) as the chief guest.
RCCI and Revenue Administration arranged the meeting with RCCI president Md Muniruzzaman Moni in the chair. Nojibur Rahman said the government will attach top priority to agriculture, power, communication, human resource, health, digital technology and education sectors in next budget.
“We have received a number of directives from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the upcoming budget. We would like to assure you that the forthcoming budget will protect local industries,” Nojibur said, adding that they would continue to give incentives to the export-oriented industries.
“The budget is going to be more business-friendly. This time it will be production-oriented as well,” the NBR chief said. The revenue boss noted that the upcoming budget would specially focus on generating employment in the country.
RCCI president Muniruzzaman said that they had placed proposals on different issues including excise, value added tax (VAT) and income tax to the NBR chairman.
RCCI President demanded allocation for dual gauge railway track from Rajshahi to Abdulpur junction, agro-based industries and more development of Rajshahi.
NBR Members Pavej Iqbal, Barrister Jahangir Hossain and Lutfor Rahman, Joint Secretary Aminul Bar Chowdhury, Director General Belal Uddin, First Secretary Fakhrul Alam, Income Tax Commissioner Dabir Uddin, Customs Commissioner Moazzem Hossain and chamber leaders including RCCI, among others, took part in the discussion.
