Door to door campaign to woo voters in Sylhet

Electioneering in Sadar upazila in the Sylhet district has reached momentum as the aspirants are now moving door to door for votes in the election to be held on March 23.
The candidates along with their supporters are holding meetings at villages. They are also making different pledges to develop the upazila and take initiatives to improve people’s living standard.
Leaflets containing election pledges and candidate’s views regarding development of the areas are being distributed among the voters.
The hectic campaign of one rival female candidates from Awami League and BNP for the post of vice-chairman reserved for women is attracting voters’ attention as both are almost of same quality and also good orators.
Five candidates are contesting in the March 23 polls. Of them, five will vie for chairman post, 12 for vice-chairman post and 8 for the post of vice-chairman reserved for women.
The chairman candidates are Ashfak Ahmed (AL), Shah Jamal Nurul Huda (BNP rebel), Abul Kaher Shamim (BNP), Mokbul Hossain (Independent) and Jalal Ahmed (Jamaat).
District Election Officer Azizul Islam said they are taking necessary measures to ensure a free, fair and credible election in the upazila.

BNP- backed UZ chairman candidate with 10 others sent to jail

A Barisal court on Thursday rejecting bail prayer ordered the BNP- backed upazila chairman candidate with 10 others activists of Babuganj upazila to send to jail for hartal violence.
The accused were Sultan Ahmed Khan, incumbent upazila chairman and chairman candidate the next UZP election of March 15, three-time winner union parishad chairman and former upazila president of BNP, Wahidul Islam Khan, Madhavpasha UP chairman and younger brother of Sultan Ahmed, Yusuf Talukdar, president upazila BNP, Sultan Molla, Basir Ahmed, Shamsul Huq, Zahirul Huq, Shahin Molla, Monir Haoladar and Mokhles Hossain, BNP leaders and activists of Babuganj upazila of Barisal.

Polls fever grips Netrakona

Hectic electioneering campaign for electing the chairman, vice chairman and woman vice chairman of Netrakona sader and Mohnganj upazila parishads are going on in the two upazilas as the third phase of upazila parishad polls scheduled to be held on March 15 in these upazilas like different other upazilas of the country.
Local people and officials said the candidates both for the posts of chairman and vice chairman are making electioneering campaign by reaching to the door-steps of the voters, exchanging pleasantries with the voters, enquiring the voters’ well-beings and requesting them to cast their votes for ensuring electoral victory of the candidates. The candidates are also holding electioneering rallies and meetings in different areas of the two upazilas to woo the voters.
The supporters of the candidates are distributing leaflets with the election symbols and photographs of the candidates among the local people especially the voters and trying to convince the voters to cast their votes in favour the candidates.
Apart from these, posters and festoons with the election symbols and photographs of the candidates are being hanged in all the road side corners and busy places of the two upazilas to draw the attention of the voters.
A total of 2,30,892 enlisted voters including 1,15,269 female voters are likely to cast their votes through 420 polling booths of the 105 vote centers in Netrakona sader upazila and 1,05,818 voters including 52,625 woman voters are expected to exercise their right of franchise through 208 pooling booths of 52 vote centers in Mohanganj upazila.
Number of three candidates are contesting for chairman post, four for the vice chairman post and two for female vice chairman post of Netrakona sader upazila parishad while number of three candidates are contesting for the chairmanship, three for vice chairmanship and two for woman vice chairmanship in Mohanganj upazila parishad.
When contacted, the district election officer Netrakona Abdullah -AL-Muhtasim said that all out preparations are nearing to completion for holding the elections in the two upazilas in a free ,fair and impartial manner without any trouble or problem.

Preparations completed in Faridpur

In the third phase of the 4th Upazilla polls in six out of nine upazillas of the district will be held on March 15 while polls in other three were held on February 27 last.
According to official sources, polls in Faridpur Sadar, Charbhadrasan, Sadarpur, Bhanga, Madhukhali and Alfadanga are scheduled to be held on March 10.
Official sources said there are 301863 voters in Faridpur Sadar upazilla including a pourasabha. Of them, 151729 are male and 150134 are female. A total 131 polling centers will be set up here with 585 polling booths.
In Charbhadrasan upazilla there are 52230 male voters and 52896 female voters where 22 centers with 95 booths will be set up. In Sadarpur upazilla there are 127153 voters. Of them, 63170 are male and 63970 are female with the facility of 63 polling centers having 261 booths.
In Bhanga upazilla 90 centers will be set up with 321 booths for casting ballots of 84421 male and 86429 female voters. In Madhukhali upazilla 72 polling centers with 286 booths will be set up for 66546 male and 66193 female voters.
