A Union Parishad member was stabbed to death and seven others, including his wife and son, were critically injured by rival at Tholipara under Sadar upazila of Khagrachhari district on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Kali Bandhu Tripura, 57, Member of Ward No. 5 of Khagrachhari union parisad.
Local sources said that a group of miscreants swopped on Kali Bandhu with sharp weapons around 10:00am when he along with family members and others was returning to his village home after hiding.
The reason of hiding was filing of a murder case against him. Neutral observers say that political rivalry and claim by both on a piece of land had an impact on the enmity with the rivals.
MM Salauddin, Additional Superintendent of Police in Khagrachhari confirmed the matter to media.
