A union parishad (UP) member was shot to death by miscreants at Nangalmora in Hathazari upazila early Monday.
The deceased was identified Anwar Hossain Jasim, 38, member of ward no 7 of Nawazishpur union parishad in Raozan upazila of the district.
The victim’s brother, Mohiudin, said some friends of Jasim called him out the house on Sunday night and since then he had remained traceless.
Officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police Station Mohammad Ismail said miscreants shot Jasim on the playground of Nangalmora High School around 4:30am, leaving him injured critically. The injured was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared him dead. On information, victim’s family members rushed to the CMCH and identified Jasim.
Meanwhile, a police team from Raozan Police Station arrested one Sumon from Gohira of the upazila around 11.00am for his alleged involvement in the killing.
The victim’s brother Mohiudin also said the incident might have taken place due to previous enmity over land business.
