A union parishad member (UP) was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants at Tota Beparir Kandi in Shibchar upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Mithu Bepari, 35, a member of Kathalbari UP in the upazila. Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar Police Station Zakir Hossain said a group of miscreants stormed into the house of Mithu in the area at about 9pm.
At one stage, the attackers stabbed him indiscriminately and left the place, leaving him dead on the spot. Police recovered the body and sent it to Madaripur Sadar
Hospital morgue for autopsy on Wednesday morning. Police also arrested one Raja Miah, a neighbor of the deceased, over suspicion of his involvement in the killing. The reason behind the killing could not be known yet. A case was filed in this connection.
