A union parishad (UP) member was hacked to death by unknown miscreants at Naldubi village in Sadar upazila early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ullah, 45, a member of Kuchakhali UP and also former general secretary of the union unit of Jubo League and son of late Nurul Islam of the village.
Locals spotted the hacked body of Mohammad Ullah near a pond in the area and informed police in the morning.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, confirmed the body recovery.
Miscreants might have killed Mohammad Ullah at some time after Wednesday midnight and dumped the body in the area, he added.
The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately.
