A union parishad (UP) member was hacked to death by miscreants at Bitghar village in Nabinagar upazila on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Al Mamun,35, a member of Bitghar union and a resident of the village.
Police said a gang of unidentified miscreants attacked Mamun in the area when he was returning house from his aunt’s house at about 10:00 pm.
At one stage, they chopped him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.
Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Saturday morning.
Police also arrested Mamun’s aunt named Marjina Begum,40, on suspicion in connection with the killing.
Officer-in-charge of Nabinagar Police Station Rupak Kumar Saha said
Mamun might have been killed over previous enmity.
