A UP chairman was shot and hacked to death by miscreants in Lohagora upazila here on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Latifur Rahman Polash, 48, Chairman of Digholia union parisahad and labour affairs secretary of Awami League Lohagora unit.
Officer-in-charge of Lohagora Police Station Shafikul Islam said some miscreants fired gunshots targeting Polash around 12 pm and hacked him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Locals took him to Lohagora Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
