Double murder case: UP chairman, 4 others put on remand

The main accused Awami League supported UP Chairman of Daibanjahati under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district and 4 others were taken to 3 day’s police remand for interrogation in connection with the murders of 2 Awami League leaders of Daibanjahari Union.
Thakur Das Mandol, Officer-in-charge (investigation) of Morrelganj PS told, after the completion of their 2 days’ police remand in connection with an armed case lodged by the police with Morrelganj PS they were produced in a court of Bagerhat on Monday and police sought the permission of the court for their 5 days’ remand in connection with the double murder case. But the court granted only 3 days’ remand for interrogation. The accused persons who were taken to police remand are UP Chairman Shahidul Fakir, Dafadar of the union Abual Fakir and Chowkidars Abul Shaikh, Julhas Dakua and Kmal Hossain. SI Asaduzzaman, Investigation Officer (IO) of the armed case disclosed, all the accused persons of the armed case were already arrested.

The IO added, 3 fire arms, 3 cartridges of shotgun, 2 cartridges of pistol and one dagger used in the murders were recovered by the police from the place of occurrence (UP office). A number of valuable evidences were obtained from the accused persons in the police interrogation. But those cannot be leaked out for the interest of further investigation.
It may be mentioned here that due to the internal rivalry among the local Awami League leaders and activists Ansar Ali Dihidar (52), General Secretary of Daibanjahati Union Awami League and Jubo League leader Shukur Ali Shaikh (41) were beaten mercilessly, inflicted severe cut injuries on their persons and at last they were shot dead by the rival leaders and activists of the same political party in the UP office on October 01 at 3 pm. Almost at the same time the rival leaders and activists of the party ransacked the dwelling house of Ansar Ali Dihidar and broke the both legs of his wife after severely beating her with lethal weapons.
Being informed of this carnage police of Morrelganj PS rushed to the spot, recovered the dead and injured persons from the auditorium of the UP office and sent them to hospital. In this connection 2 separate cases were registered with the local PS- one for double murders and one for arms.
Police prayed to the court for 5 days’ remand of the accused persons for each case. But the court granted only total 5 days’ remand- 2 days for armed case and 3 days for double murder case.##
