VGD distribution: UP chairman, 10 members, secretary sent to jail in Barguna for giving less-weight

 A Barguna court on Tuesday ordered to send 12 out of 13 accused including a chairman, secretary, 10 members of a union parishad to jail for using tricks to give less-weight in measurement during distribution of food grains under Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) programme.
Nazrul Islam, judge of the district special court, passed this order on Tuesday afternoon.
The jailed accused were Azizul Huq, chairman, Anawarul Islam, secretary, Rani Begum, Jahanara Begum, Bari Azad Swapan, Enamul Huq, Abu Hena Mustafa Zamal Milton, Ali Hossain Darji, Harunor Rashid, Afzal Hossain, Wazed Ali Khan, Obaidul Huq, members of Dhalua union parishad of Barguna Sadar upazila.
Advocate Golam Mustafa, Advocate Nurul Amin, Advocate Manowara Begum of prosecution side and Advocate Kamol Kanti Das of defense side confirmed the report.
Court sources said government allotted per-head 30 Kg rice under VGD programme for the enlisted distressed women of the union.
However the accused UP men distributed 22/23 Kg instead of 30 Kg rice and Mosammat Nasrin, one of the stake holder lodged a case in this connection with the afore said court on August 28, 2012 against 13 accused.
The court asked Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the allegation .
Ahsan Ali, deputy director ACC, after invesgation submitted final report of the case acquitting all of 13 accused on December 18, 2014.
Complainant of the case filed Naraji (no-confidence) at the same court against the final report of ACC.
The court accepting the Naraji issued summon against the accused and 12 out of 13 accused, except UP member Golam Ambia Swapan, on Tuesday appearing before the court asked bail.
However the court rejecting the bail prayer ordered the appeared 12 accused to jail and issued arrest warrant against the rest absconding accused, court sources told.
