As protest flares up in social media and educational institutions, many are looking at alleged BCL atrocities throughout the country blaming the ruling party student front of such crimes involving killings, rape and sexual harassment of teachers and students all over the country.
They are protected under the cover of ruling party politics and destroying social peace and families with impunity from trial against such crimes. Their activities are exposing the cruelties of bad elements within the student organization while destroying the image of the government as it is allowing them to go unchecked.
Such a BCL leader hacked a female student of Sylhet Government Women’s College in broad day-light on Monday. What is incredible is that the gruesome hacking was recorded in video camera and spread to social media by unknown sources.
The victim Khadija Akhter Nargis is now in coma and undergoing treatment at neurosurgical intensive care unit of Square Hospital in Dhaka. She was immediately flown to Dhaka on advice of local doctors.
“Several deep cuts were found in the victim’s head, skull and brain. She is in critical condition,” Mirza Nazimuddin, Director of Square Hospital, told reporters.
Earlier on August 13, a Tejgaon College Unit BCL leader was accused of rape and murder of a female student of a private polytechnic institute in Mirpur in the city.
Afsana Ferdous, an Architecture student of Saik Institute of Management and Technology, was dumped at a local hospital in an unconscious state by two unidentified BCL activists.
Her dead body was later received by police.
The victim’s family alleged that she was raped before being murdered. They have accused Tejgaon College unit BCL Organizing Secretary Habibur Rahman Robin of having masterminded the crime.
On October 5 last year, two BCL activists reportedly sexually harassed two female students at Rajshahi University campus.
The victims – students of philosophy and physics department, later lodged a written complaint over the matter to the proctor.
They also submitted a written complaint to the university’s sexual harassment complaint committee accusing BCL activists Sujon Pramanik and Liton Hossain.
On March 9 last year, some BCL leaders gang raped a Chakma schoolgirl at Dighinala of Khagrachhari in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The 13 years victim was a student of Babuchhara High School. Police later arrested the president of Kabakhali union unit of Chhatra League Md Shahriar Sohel along with his accomplices in this connection. Such examples are hefty but actions are not followed.
Not only harassing female students, they are also fighting themselves and some report said 41 BCL men were killed in their own factional fights in last six years showing that the organization has no control over its own activists.
