Though pacer Mohammad Shahid did not get any wicket on the first day of the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa but he is one of the bowlers, who scone with the cherry at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Tuesday.
Debutante pacer Mustafizur Rahman finished at 4/37, leg spinner Jubair Hossain completed at 3/53 and Mahmudullah Riyad, Shakib Al Hasan, Taijul Islam got one wicket each.
But unlucky Mohammad Shahid cut a brilliant figure. He bowled 17 overs with nine maidens giving away 34 runs. His economic rate was 2.00.
He could get another maiden over but Shakib Al Hasan failed to take a shot of Faf du Plessis. Thus, two runs were added to the account of Faf du Plessis.
Besides, Imrul Kayes failed to grip a catch of Vernon Philander from a delivery of Mohammad Shahid. Later, Kayes failed to take a catch of Temba Bayuma of another delivery of Mohammad Shahid.
After the first day play, the hero of the day one of the first Test Mustafizur Rahman said, “Shahid (Bhai) bowled extra-ordinarily. He conceded a few runs. It helped us to dominate over the tourists on the first day.
