The unloading activities at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port and in 16 private ghats (unloading stations) of the Karnaphuli resumed yesterday.
The water vessel workers went on a strike across the country on Saturday demanding waterways be freed from extortions, intimidations and robberies. Due to the wildcat strike, vessel movement on all internal routes remained suspended. Besides, the agitation disrupted the delivery of 20 lakh metric tonnes of goods from the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port and other jetties across the country.
The vessel workers’ strike ended on Monday evening as they called off their strike after sitting a negotiation meeting with the shipping minister. Water Transport Cell sources said that the transportation and unloading operations resumed from 600 lighter vessels across the country.
Chittagong Port Authority sources said that the unloading operations at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port. Khorshed Alam, joint secretary of Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation told that the unloading operations resumed on Monday night.
