The local residents of Patenga embankment area in city apprised the city Mayor Ajm Nasiruddin that until they are properly rehabilitated in city areas, they will not surrender their fraternal land for the proposed feeder road under outer ring road project of Chittagong Development Authority. The local residents of the Patenga area informed their decision to city Mayor while visited
the proposed sites of the feeder road. City Mayor goes round the area on foot defying sudden showers in the morning on Friday.
Former councilor and member secretary of Rehabilitation committee Md. Aslam told that CDA under the financial assistance of JAICA, Outer ring road is being implemented and under this project another 30 bigas land of 105 families acquisitioned for two more feeder roads .
He said the residents of this area handed over their fraternal lands to govt for building CEPZ, steel mills, New Mooring container terminal and other govt installations earlier as requisitioned . In the meantime , earth filling work completed in 125 bighas of land for constructing outer ring road after acquisition .
Again CDA wanted to take over lands of 105 families for feeder roads . As such CDA issues notice of acquisition to 105 families under section 3 & 6 which is a kind of cruelty , he added. The local residents vow to retain in their fraternal lands until proper rehabilitation. Local conscious circle sources s aid tense situation is prevailing in Patenga area centering acquisition. Sources said memorandum were given to Deputy commissioner, CDA chairman and City Mayor in the meantime and hence city Mayor went to the proposed sites to witness the situation there.
Councilor Shaibal Das Summon, President of Rehabilitation Committee Younus Sowdagar, Faridul Allam, former councilor Abdul Barek, Javedul Islam, Iqbal Jahangir, Jahid Hossain, Musa Alam and other local elite were present during his visit.
City Mayor gave patient hearing to the allegations of the local residents and assures them to take the matter with the CDA chairman.
Earlier city mayor visited the ongoing development work of airport road and sea beach road and temporary office of city ward no.41, ccc sources said.
