The gender experts, researchers and academicians underscored the need of establishing day care centres in all the public and private universities with a view to helping the working mothers.
“The working mothers cannot give enough time as they remain busy with their children. So, to establish day care centre is a must at every working institution. It can begin from the universities,” they said.
They said this at a dialogue titled “Societal and other Related Issues for the Working Mothers” at NEC Conference Room organised by Economic Relations Division (ERD) on Sunday.
Kazi Shofiqul Azam, Secretary of the ERD presided over the function while Aftab Ahmad, Joint Secretary of Economic Relations Division moderated it.
Dr. Tania Huque, Associate Professor of Gender and Media Studies Department of Dhaka University, Dr. Rushidan Islam Rahman, former Director of BIDS, Dr. Nazneen Ahmed, Senior Research fellow of BIDS and A H
M Noman Khan, Executive Director of Center for Disability in Development spoke in the discussion, among others.
Members of the Gender thematic group formed by ERD and representatives from different Government and Non-Government Sector also took part in the dialogue.
Dr. Tania Haque said, the women are facing different problems in working places. It should be minimised. Otherwise, the economic development as well as overall development of the country is impossible.
She also emphasised on gender need assessment and empowerment of women in different stages.
She also underscored the need of separate transports for working women and engagement of private sector in developing Government project targeting the working women.
Dr. Rushidan Islam Rahman said the government must ensure all the facilities for working mothers. It is the demand of time to raise voices for day care centres in all the sectors to take care the children of the working mothers.
