Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam stressed the need for greater unity of all irrespective of political affiliations, barring a few identified groups, to eliminate terrorism and militancy from the country.
Blaming BNP for patronising militancy, he said, “The government alone can’t go for total elimination of terrorism and militancy from the country due to lack of a consensus in this regard.”
The Minister said this on Wednesday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at the hall room of the National Press Club here.
The Projanma’71, an organisation of the generation born after 1971, organised the discussion on “We demand a Bangladesh free from Jamaat-Shibir, collaborators and militancy” with its president Md Azizur Rahman in the chair.
Dhaka City Awami League (AL) leader and former lawmaker Advocate Sanjida Khanam, vice-president of Holland unit AL Md Zakirul Huq Tipu and president of Bangladesh Shaheed Muktijoddha Paribar Sangsad Haji Md Emdadul Huq also spoke at the discussion, among others.
Advocate Quamrul Islam, also joint general secretary of Dhaka City AL, alleged that BNP was responsible for emergence of militancy in the country with an ulterior motive to mislead the new generation through introduction of religion-biased politics to save those anti-liberation elements and killers of Bangabandhu.
The AL leader said, “The statement of Jamaat and BNP is identical and there is no difference between their activities.
So, there is no scope to take a separate view on both of them. BNP is composed of anti-liberation forces like Jamaat-Shibir- Rajakars, Muslim League and Nezam-e-Islami. Friendship between BNP and Jamaat is natural.
