United efforts to resist militancy stressed

Speakers at a view-exchange meeting urged the people from all walks of life to make united efforts to resist secret killings, terrorism, militancy and conspiracy against the country.
The meeting on ‘terrorism and militancy’ was held yesterday between the members of newly formed Khulna City Unit Policing Forum and high officials of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) at the conference room of Police headquarters.
A 101-member Khulna City Unit Policing Forum has been re-formed with noted physician Quamrul Islam and social worker Md. Sayed Ali as its president and general secretary respectively.
The forum has been re-constituted at a meeting to fight against anti-social activities and to create public awareness to resist terrorism and militancy.
Chaired by the policing forum president Dr. Quamrul Islam, KMP Commissioner Nibash Chandra Majhi addressed it as the chief guest.
Khatibs, Imams of mosques, priests of temples, presidents and general secretaries of different professional bodies, civil society leaders, teachers, journalists and lawyers attended the meeting.
The chief guest urged the members of the policing forum to launch a massive campaign at all levels and form unity among the people believing in spirit of the 1971 Liberation War.
He said that KMP is determined to sternly deal with the drug traders here to rid the city dwellers of this social menace.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by additional police commissioner of KMP Mahbub Hakim, president of City unit Muktijoddha Sangsad Professor Alamgir, vice-president of Khulna Chamber of Commerce Gopi Kisan Mundora, vice-president of Frozen Foods Exporters Association Md. Abdul Baki, journalists S M Nazrul Islam and S M Zahid Hossain, president of Khulna Zila Imam Parishad Mowlana Md. Abu Saleh, civil society leaders Mahbub Alam Farazi, Abdullah Aref Titu, advocate Aloka Nanda Das and deputy police commissioner Fazlur Rahman.
