United efforts needed to increase food production

Speakers at a daylong workshop here Wednesday (Wednesday) stressed united efforts and people’s participation for increasing food production to achieve a sustainable food security.
Public representatives, stakeholders and grassroots people can play a vital role in enhancing production of crops as most of them have homestead lands.
Through their collective efforts, the nation can also achieve the expected goal of self sufficiency in poultry and dairy farming, they further said while speaking at a divisional level learning/ sharing workshop under the food security assistance to most vulnerable and poorest households in waterlogged area project.
Four non-government organizations, including Concern Universal, Ashroy Foundation, Prateek Trust and Development and Rehabilitation Organization (DRO) with assistance of the World Food Programme and UKAID, organized the workshop at a hotel in the city.
Khulna divisional commissioner Md. Abdus Samad addressed the workshop as the chief guest and deputy director of LGED department Habibul Haque Khan, Generel Secretary of Khulna Press Club S M Zahid Hossain spoke as special guests with executive director of Ashroy Foundation Momtaz Khatun in the chair.
Assistant project manager of Concern Universal of Bangladesh Masud Rana made power point presentation while different stakeholders, public representatives, project beneficiaries from Satkhira, Jessore, Bagerhat and Khulna attended the open discussion.
Chief guest Samad said the government is committed to ensure food security of the nation.
Government is very much positive towards welfare of the poor people and their sustainable livelihood and food security he said, adding that various welfare-oriented uplift programmes have already been taken.
