United efforts must to intensify infant-maternal health services

Speakers at a discussion viewed concerted efforts of all government and non-government organizations concerned including the media is very important for reaching the services of family planning and maternal-infant-juvenile health to the target group of people including the marginalized and underprivileged communities. In the present social context, there is an urgent need of bringing all the fertile couples and others concerned under the above mentioned services. So, all quarters including the media both print and electronics should come forward and work together.
They were addressing an advocacy meeting and press-briefing held at the conference hall Family Welfare Visitors Training Institute (FWVTI) in Rajshahi.
Department of Family Planning (DFP) organized the event to mark its forthcoming ‘Family Planning, Mother-Infant-Juvenile Health Service and Campaign Week-2016. It is scheduled to be observed in all Unions, Upazilas and districts simultaneously from May 14 to 19. Divisional Director of DFP Moloy Kumar Roy addressed the discussion as chief guest with its Deputy Director Dr Nasim Akhter in the chair. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education Development and ICT) Parvej Raihan, Civil Surgeon Dr Ferdous Nilufar and Principal of FWVTI Faridul Haque spoke as resource persons.
During her keynote presentation, Dr Sharmin Selina Sultana, Consultant of FWVTI, narrated the aspects of antenatal and postnatal care and institutional delivery for safe delivery.
She observed that collective efforts of all government and non-government organizations concerned is very crucial to make all the fertile couples conscious about family planning.
“Antenatal care and institutional delivery are considered as the effective means of preventing various types of high risk factors like pre-eclampsia, post-eclampsia, antepartum hemorrhage, post-partum hemorrhage and obstructed labor,” Dr Sharmin Sultana said.
In his remarks, Moloy Kumar Roy says there is no way, but to create public awareness about aspects of planned family and that is very important to attain the cherished goal. Media role is vital to this end. Taking part in the open discussion, some of the attending journalists highlighted the necessity of expediting the village-level family planning activities. They underlined the need for giving top priority to motivating the fertile couples so that they could check their unwanted pregnancy through using contraceptives.
Ensuring adolescent-friendly reproductive health services is also important for making the adolescents aware about reproductive health, aspects of planned family and curse of child marriage.
