Union Digital Centers (UDC) are acting as one-stop service centers of various public services to the citizens, introduced with the aim of making UDCs hubs of citizen services in fur-flanged areas and establishing good governance.
This was stated by Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury while visiting an integrated community and lifestyle hub ‘Our Tampines Hub’ (OTH) center in Singapore, said a press release issued here on Thursday.
“The Union Digital Centers’ have been established as a part of the government’s ‘Digital Bangladesh’ implementation programme. The parliament members are coordinating with the local govt. bodies to ensure easy access to the public services at union and village levels”, Dr. Shirin said.
The Speaker also said that, “The people of remote areas are now able to get birth certificates, make admission into educational institutions, obtain results, register for the social security programs at a low cost in no time…UDCs are emerging as hubs for government services in the remote areas”.
Besides the government services, some private services are also being provided from these centers, considered as a milestone in public-private partnership, she commented.
During the visit, OTH made a power point presentation stating that almost all the public private services are being provided from OTH to the two hundred and sixty thousand residents in Singapore’s Tampines area.
It was also informed that the center is being managed efficiently with the active participation of residents’ and representatives of various government agencies.
Shirin suggested that Bangladesh could seek Singapore’s technical assistance in further enriching the UDCs, added the release.
The OTH said it would provide technical assistance to Bangladesh in the future if needed.
