Speakers at an event raised a unified voice against the rape culture and all forms of gender-based violence, urging the people to make resistances to eliminate the social curses.
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Department of Women Affairs, ActionAid Bangladesh, Ain o Salish Kendra and CARE Bangladesh jointly organized the event on Tuesday in observance of the “16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence” at Dhanmondi Rabindra Sarobar in the city.
Director General of the Department of Women Affairs Badrun Nessa addressed the programme as the chief guest while Deputy Director of the department Sultana Razia addressed it as the special guest.
UNFPA Representative Dr Asa Torkelsson addressed the event as the guest of honour while Ambassador of Netherlands Harry Verweij and Ambassador of Canada Benoit were present.
More than thousand of general people joined the open programme and expressed solidarity to with the event.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness among the mass people against any forms of gender-based violence, including rape and sexual harassment, and to bring policy makers, media under the same umbrella to prevent the social curses.
Country Director of the ActionAid Farah Kabir, Executive Director of Ain o Salish Kendra Sheepa Hafiza and Country Director of CARE Bangladesh Zia Choudhury spoke in the programme, among others.
