Bangladesh will highlight the existing investment opportunities and facilities in the country during an international conference on investment that begins in Vienna, the capital and largest city of Austria, on Tuesday.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu left here Monday morning for Vienna to attend the two-day Forum, titled ‘Partnerships to scale up investment for inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID)’.
United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will host the event at the Vienna International Centre.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Senegal’s Prime Minister Mahammed Dionne, African Union Commission Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and UNIDO Director General Li Yong will address the opening session of the Forum.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu will highlight the investment opportunities and facilities that exist in Bangladesh in the Forum to attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country.
He is likely to meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and UNIDO DG on the sidelines of the Forum, said an official at the Industries Ministry.
In light of UNIDO’s new mandate to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID), which was adopted in December 2013 in Lima, UNIDO is organizing two ISID Forums in 2014.
The first one, held in June, engaged Member States in a dialogue to formulate strategies and policies that promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
The key outcomes of the first Forum serve as the foundation for the second Forum, which will extend the impact and outreach of ISID goals by strengthening the partnership dialogue between UNIDO, recipient Governments, development finance institutions, development agencies, the private sector and donors in order to scale up investment for inclusive and sustainable industrial development in developing countries.
The Industries Minister will return home on November 7.
