UNIDO DG arrives today on 3-day official visit

 Li Yong, director general (DG) of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), arrives here today (Wednesday) tomorrow on a three-day official visit at theinvitation of industries minister Amir Hossain Amu.
The UNIDO DG who will lead a four-member delegation is coming to Dhaka from Bangkok on the second leg of his mission to the Asia Pacific region, said a media release of the industries ministry here on Tuesday.
“Li Yong’s visit is very important for Bangladesh as the UNIDO has chosen Bangladesh as a pilot country in the Asia for the first time under its country programme. It will finalize the country programme for 2017-2021 through this visit,” said the release.
During his stay here, Li Yong will make a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He will have bilateral talks with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu.
He will also hold separate meetings with Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali.
The UNIDO DG is scheduled to join a seminar on inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) regarding achieving SDG-9.
He is expected to visit Dhaka Export Processing Zone and Savar Tannery Estate. Li Yong will also visit Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32.
UNIDO’s relationship with Bangladesh began in 1972 with the establishment of a pilot plastics processing and demonstration centre. Since then, UNIDO has implemented 42 projects involving US $35 million in various sectors, including garments, fisheries and leather.
