ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) and United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) jointly organized a seminar on the celebration of World Human Rights Day-2015 at ASAUB premises recently.
Mika Kanervavuori, World Human Rights Adviser, UN Resident Coordinator’s Office was present as the Key-note speaker while Professor Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman, Vice Chancellor of ASAUB presided over the program. M. Moniruzzaman, Office-in-Charge, UNIC Dhaka read out UN Secretary-General’s message of the World Human Rights Day-2015.
Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Helal uz Zaman, Treasurer of ASAUB, Prof. Dr. Abu Daud Hasan, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, ASAUB, Prof. S. Aminul Islam, Chairman, Dept. of Applied Sociology also spoke on the occasion. Mr. Md. Khalequzzaman, Registrar, ASAUB made the welcome address.
In the discussion, the speakers told that most of the countries in the world have signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is adopted and proclaimed by the General Assembly of United Nations. Worldwide Human Right situations are developing day by day. But in many segments we could not achieve our goal. We are facing natural calamities as well as man-made disasters. So, world is now facing a huge refugee crisis. most of the refugees living in an inhumane situation.
The speakers said that political, social and economic rights are the important aspects of human rights. At present, people from different corners of the world are deprived of these rights. The speakers expressed their hope that people will be aware through developing their practice on human rights through the celebration of World Human Rights Day adopted by United Nations on 10th December across the world.
In the second part of the program, three famous poets of Bangladesh named Ms. Ruby Rahman, Shihab Sarker and Muhammad Samad have recited self-composed poems and another young poet Ms. Anika Shati Prova also recited her self-composed poem.
At the end, students of DIU staged a wonderful drama titled “We sing for Equality”. Deans and Chairmen from different faculties and departments, teachers and students of ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) participated in the program.
