Many food items are being prepared under open sky and in unhygienic condition here. Most of the restaurants, bakeries and confectioneries are not following government rules in this connection, it was alleged. As a result, people’s health is at stake and they are suffering from various intestinal diseases.
It was found that many food shops have been set up here and there in upazila headquarters, business areas, and beside roads and bus stands at Zibonnagar, Damurhuda, Alamdanga, Dorsana,and Munshigonj, areas. These restaurants are running with no legal permission from the competent authorities and are evading the Value Added Tax (VAT) rules.
It was further found that owners of the food shops cook food using low quality items and amid substandard condition. While visiting the restaurants at different places of the district, this correspondent saw that the workers preserve water in plastic drums and serve the same to the consumers dipping their unclean hand in the water, and as a result, the water becomes contaminated and increases health hazaeds.
