A four-member UNFPA team led by Rondi Anderson and Jennifer R. Stevens, International Midwifery Specialists called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman on Monday. Other members of the team are Senior Advisor of UNFPA Dr. Syed Abu Jafar Md Musa and Programme Analyst Farida Begum of the same organization. During the meeting at VC’s office, they discussed matters of mutual interest specially midwifery problems in Bangladesh. They exchanged views regarding strengthening cooperation and undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes between DU and UNFPA. UNFPA team members expressed their willingness to work together with DU specially its Population Sciences Department, Women and Gender Studies Department and Institute of Health Economics. In this regard they sought help and cooperation from DU Vice-Chancellor.
DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, “We need to explore aforesaid academic areas and urged UNFPA team members to come forward with a specific proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DU and UNFPA.” Under this MoU, UNFPA will provide support to DU students to pursue their Masters and PhD programme in Sweden. DU VC Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman thanked UNFPA team members for their visit to and willingness to work together with DU.
