People of Feni town are sufferings due to frequent movement of unfit and unlicensed vehicles on the roads.
Sources said , movement of illegal vehicles increased in the recent months, causing sufferings to the townspeople. Particularly school goers are sufferings much as they have to go to school regularly.
A section of dishonest people are running the vehicles without any license by managing traffic police causing accidents on the road very often.
In addition, ignorant drivers run their vehicles violating traffic rules and creating severe traffic jams on the roads.
Tractors imported from India meant to be used at farmland, are being used to carry goods after a little modification illegally, sources said.
Traffic police are not cordial regarding this issue. If they take stern action, nobody will dare to run such unfit vehicles on the road, some local people said.
A decision was taken by the district law and order committee few years back that heavy vehicles like trucks, tractors and nosimon (engine-run three-wheeler) would not be allowed to enter the town from 10.00am to 2.00 pm to avoid traffic jams on the roads, Deputy Commissioner (DC) office sources said.
But, the traffic police for some unknown reasons are not showing any interest to carry out the order, sources added.
Locals alleged two school boys were killed at Munshirhat Bazaar and Dagon Bhuyan Bazaar in the District due to reckless driving a few days ago.
Later, it was learnt that the driver who was driving the tractor carelessly did not have any driving license or other necessary documents.
A truck driver on condition of anonymity said they had to pay money to the traffic police on the Mohipal- Feni Road to enter the town.
Refuting the allegation, Traffic Inspector Mominul Islam and Traffic Sergeant Aminul Islam said, “The drivers of unfit and date-expired vehicles are being fined regularly and we file cases against them.”
The municipality dwellers urged the concerned authority to take necessary measures to stop the movement of unfit vehicles and reckless driving.
