Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq said on Thursday that the number of new buses in the city is about 1,500 out of 6, 390.
The government has plan to remove all the old buses with new ones and, as such, 4000 new buses will be in action gradually, the Mayor said.
“We will import 4000 new buses as per our previous plan. The new fleet will be added to the old convoy of 1500 fit buses,” the DNCC Mayor said.
He also said, “We have been working on our plan. We have sat with the transport owners 26 times so far.”
The Mayor said, ” A vested quarter is involved with the transport business. The bus owners understand vested circle well and to get rid of them.”
The Mayor said it when the DNCC conducted an eviction drive in front of the Russian Embassy in Gulshan Diplomatic Zone.
DNCC Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar and DNCC Chief Engineer Brigadier General Syed Anwarul Islam, among others, were present.
