Unfair price hike 11 individuals, companies sued

Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC) has filed case against Unilever Bangladesh Ltd, City Group and 11 people for unusual price hiking and making artificial crisis of rice, flour, egg, Chicken meat and toiletries’.
 According to commission sources it was known that BCC has prosecuted against Rashid Agro Food Products, Belcon Group, City Group of Industries, Bangladesh Edible Oil Limited for rice; City Group of Industries for Flour; Paragon Poultry for Eggs, President of Egg Traders-Artdar Multipurpose Cooperative Society Amanullah, Managing Director of Kazi Farms Group Kazi Jahedul Islam; Kazi Jahedul Islam, Managing Director of Kazi Farms Group for Poultry, Paragon Poultry Limited; Managing Director of Unilever Bangladesh Limited for toiletries products-A total of 11 individuals and organizations have been prosecuted, although the same organization appears multiple times in the list.
Bangladesh Competition Commission Secretary Md Abdus Sabur said that case was filed against 11 person and producing companies of rice, flour, egg, meat, as there are allegations against them.
He said the action will be taken against them as per law.
When asked about the case, Unilever Bangladesh Corporate Affairs and Partnership and Communication department Director Shamima Akter said that we did not get any legal notice yet. So, it is impossible to say for what they have prosecuted against us.
As a Multinational Company (MNC) we always abide by the Bangladesh government rules and regulation, she added.
 She further said, we are ready to cooperate with the Bangladesh government and also respect their decision.
The companies and the persons will call to face the prosecution from September 26.
