Jeans Care Ltd, an export-oriented garments industry, is near to closure due to unfair labour practices created allegedly by its trade union leaders.
“The union leaders are unnecessarily interfering most of the activities of the management and forcing the workers to stop working in their floors without any valid ground. Even, they are preventing to shift an efficient worker from one machine to another, causing production losses to the factory,” said a statement of the Jeans Care Ltd issued by its Director (administration) Badrul Haq on Sunday.
It said that leaders of Jeans Care Samilita Sramik Union backed by AWAJ Foundation are infusing the unfair labour practices among the workers with an intention to create labour unrest in the factory.
The factory is located in the city’s Tejgaon Industrial Area.
“In many occasions, workers have been forced to stop working without any logical and lawful reason while they were forced to join meetings arranged by AWAJ Foundation almost every Sunday,” it added.
The Bangladesh Labour Act-2006, Section 196 (1) discourages anyone to run trade union related activities during working hours.
The authorities of the factory have lodged complaints with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Joint Labour Director and Tejgaon Industrial Police Station in this connection.
