Staff Reporter :
An uneasy situation is prevailing at the PWD headquarters in the capital centering a demonstration programme organised by a group of PWD officials who are reported to be supporters of the outgoing Chief Engineer.
They staged the rally at the PWD headquarters premises on Sunday morning defying an order in this regard by the ministry concerned.
Earlier in the morning, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, in a
letter, issued the order singed by Deputy Secretary Fahimul Islam, asking the chief engineer to take necessary steps to hold the programme.
“We came to know that Kader Chowdhury, SE, Circle-1, Dhaka, has asked the PDW employees and officials to remained present at a protest and demonstration rally at 10am today (Sunday) through SMS by his cell phone which is a ‘breach of disciplinary and regulatory code of conduct,” read the letter.
The SMS reads, “For protecting the image of PWD, all employees are earnestly requested to attend the protest and demonstration function in the PWD area tomorrow at 10 AM.”
“Our secretary had a conversation last night with you (chief engineer) and he requested you to take necessary measures to seize the programme,” according to the Ministry’s letter.
“After reviewing the overall situation, the ministry is issuing the order to you not to allow any kinds of meeting and demonstration during the office hour and if necessary you have been asked to take help of law enforcing agencies to prevent such activities at the PWD headquarters,” it said.
