A total of 5,507 public service providers in Local Government Institution (LGI) received personal protective gears over the past couple of days in the district to infuse dynamism into their service delivery activities amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under its ‘Efficient and Accountable Local Governance (EALG)’ project provided the gears as emergency response to the Covid-19 aimed at protecting the frontline service providers from its infection.
Each of 926 district, upazila and union parishad level public service providers consisting public representatives, officials and employees concerned was given kn 95 facemask, gown, gumboot, hand gloves, eye-protecting glass and sanitizers at two upazilas and 30 union parishads in the district.
Besides, 4,581 sets of preventive materials were also distributed among different committee members of Upazila Parishad, Union Parishad and members of Community Clinic Management Committee in the same area.
Each beneficiary received KN95 Mask, Surgical Mask, Hand Gloves, Hand sanitizer and soap.
Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque accompanied by Deputy Director of Local Government Division Parvej Raihan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam and District Facilitator of EALG Project Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal inaugurated the distribution programme earlier.
Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal told media that protecting local level front liners who are providing all kinds of emergency services to the community from the Covid-19 infection was the main objective of the material distribution.
UNDP assumes these service providers are highly unprotected from Covid-19 and GO/NGOs are hardly providing preventive materials for them.
As a whole, the preventive materials will increase their level of confidence to service besides containing spreading of coronavirus at community level.
