The Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Facility [CHTDF] of UNDP programme for supporting governance and conflict prevention in three hill districts will be extended with support from the Embassy of Sweden.
The project commenced on July 1, 2014 in partnership with the embassies of Sweden and Denmark will now continue until September 2016, said a media statement released by UNDP on Sunday.
The overall objective of the programme is to facilitate confidence building in the Hill Tracts and solve long standing challenges to development in the region.
Meanwhile, with the renewed support from the Embassy of Sweden the project will continue strengthening CHT communities to manage their own development, and engaging with journalists and civil society organizations on the promotion of human rights and gender empowerment.
Capacity support to government institutions on the establishment of laws, policies and processes required to further operationalize the CHT Accord and ensure robust governance will also be continued.
The programme is being delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, CHT Regional Council, Hill District Councils and Circle Offices, the statement said.
