A two-day training session under the pro-poor trade project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with Dhaka University (DU) began at its Social Sciences Faculty on Tuesday.
UNDP Deputy Country Director Nick Beresford launched the training session jointly with Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Dhaka University’s Department of Development Studies.
Praising the innovative research collaboration, Dr Khan said, “I strongly believe the partnership between Dhaka University and UNDP will unveil a new area of participatory research and knowledge sharing.”
The project is an innovative research initiative, combining the strength of UNDP with the knowledge of one of the leading institutions of higher education in Bangladesh, said a press release.
Dhaka University students are being trained to collect ‘micro-narratives’ from the poorest districts of Bangladesh, seeking to gain new perspectives on how the poorest market actors engage with national and international value chains.
Once trained, students will travel to 18 districts of Bangladesh, spending seven days gathering narratives from a wide range of rural and urban locations.
