A Zurich-based company has proposed underground power plants in Bangladesh to minimise the use of land for power generation.
A rising demand for power in Bangladesh has forced the government to look for alternatives.
A Powerpoint presentation by the ABB Limited at a Dhaka hotel on Wednesday showed a power plant below the surface with other establishments on the ground.
ABB’s Bangladesh country manager and managing director Rajarshi Banerjee said Bangladesh could utilise this technology given its land constraints.
“We produce technology keeping in mind the various needs of various regions of the world,” he said.
Banerjee said such a power plant had been installed in New Delhi. According to ABB website, it provides services in power and automation technologies. The Switzerland-based company employs some 150,000 people and operates in approximately 100 countries.
