JASHORE-6 MP Shaheen Chaklader is facing criticisms after a leaked phone conversation revealed that he asked a police officer to bomb a police station and frame a lawyer for it. The conversation between Shaheen and Jashim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Keshobpur Police Station reportedly happened a couple of weeks ago.
The lawmaker, also General Secretary of Jashore Awami League, was heard asking Jashim to bomb the police station and file a case accusing environmental activist Saifullah. Saifullah who worked closely with Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA), recently filed a writ petition with the High Court against an illegal brick kiln called “M/S Super Bricks” in Keshobpur, which apparently irked the lawmaker.
In the clip, the MP called and asked the OC if he knew Saifullah of Satbaria. In reply, the OC said, “Saifullah went to BELA and filed a case against the brick kiln. Extraordinarily the MP wanted the current OC of Keshabpur to bomb his own station and blame it on the environmental activist.
The OC denied to have any involvement with bombing. Actually the anger of the MP towards the activist resulted in the MP asking the police OC to bomb his own station. We know that power corrupts but this level of corruption is reaching record heights now. Worse still, he stated that the audio clip was tampered but the police OC did not.
The kind of MPs the government has chosen has to show police power as their power. It should have unthinkable for an MP to ask a police officer to bomb to implicate an innocent person with a serious crime. The place said to have chosen is a police station. The current MPs are nobody unless they can abuse police power. In fact the abuse of police power is the government.
