Speakers in a programme said, selling date expired drugs are more malignant than issuing fake covid-19 certificate. The adulterated and phony medicine is the cause of death of a large number of people. Those who are connected with the illegal business are murderers, and capital punishment is appropriate for them. There should be no clemency for the fraudsters.
It was said at a human chain programme organized by Safe Food and Consumer Rights Movement-SFCRM, Bangladesh on Monday in front of Jatiya Press Club.
National Awami Party (NAP) Secretary General M Golam Mustofa Bhuyan said, the annual sales of date expired drugs amount to Tk 15 billion in the country, which is 20 percent of overall medicine sales. Where we will go, what we will consume when the vegetables, fruits, fish, edible oil and even medicine are contaminated.
Contamination of foods make the people suffer from various diseases. Then they go to doctors for treatment. They buy medicines that are unauthorized. Where will people go, he raised question.
He demanded for a strict law to wipe out food and medicine adulteration.
The programme was presided by its Chief Executive Kamruzzaman Bablu while former Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) President Mir Mohammad Jasim, SFCRM’s Vice-President Md. Shahidul islam, Treasurer Noman Mosharef, Imam Hasan, Abdul Aziz, SMA Sattar, Sarwar Nizami, Manik Miazi and SECRM’s Cumilla Unit Convener HM Muhiuddin among others were present at the occasion.
