Housing projects and apartment businesses without any approval are flourishing in different areas of Sylhet city. Customers are being attracted through flashy advertisements and colourful signboards to buy plots and flats of these projects.
Experts say such unplanned housing projects would affect civic amenities, cause environmental disaster and create various problems, including public security.
more than 50 housing companies and more than 100 firms are selling plots and flats without permission.
A town planner said according to Real Estate Development and Management Act-2010 it primarily requires registration of entrepreneur and consultant to build a housing project. Owner of the land is entrepreneur and consultant (expert) is planner and architect.
Later it would require trade license, TIN (tax Identification number) and registration number of VAT (Value Added Tax).
After visiting the area, it was found that a number of housing projects were built up in the name of Hly City, Khadim Nagar Housing Project, Oporupa Housing Project, Jalalabad .Lotif nagar .Dream city.Holyland in Khadim nagar and Dakshin surma areas under Sylhet city.
These companies are selling plots of 2, 3, 5 and 10 kathas to clients.
More than one housing project owner admitted that none took permission from the Housing Development Authority. It is learnt, the owners are doing flat business by taking permission of building houses.
An official anonymity said one or two individuals tactfully managed influential people and organisations to get approval of their projects.
