The UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances has wanted to know the fate and whereabouts of 34 disappeared persons in Bangladesh.
The UN human right agency sent a letter to the foreign ministry in this regard on June 14, enclosing a list of the disappeared persons.
The Foreign Ministry forwarded the letter to the Special Branch (SB) of Police, according to a report of a local news portal.
The UN letter was later sent to the Chief of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The field-level officers of the DMP are now preparing a report on the disappeared persons, according to the report.
Earlier, the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, the UN Committee against Torture, and the UN Human Rights Committee expressed their concern over the Bangladesh government’s failure to disclose information on disappeared persons.
